adidas Terrex Agravic SL Review: Fast, Fun, and Stable on the Trails

If you mix your runs between pavement and dirt, you need a shoe that can handle both. The adidas Terrex Agravic SL tries to do exactly that. It’s a trail daily trainer with enough cushion for long runs and enough grip to keep you steady on rough ground.
I tested these on local trails ranging from smooth fire roads to rocky paths with roots and loose dirt. Right away, the shoe feels light. At 9.84 ounces, it feels nimble while still offering plenty of protection underfoot. The 6mm drop (33mm in the forefoot, 39mm in the heel) sits in the sweet spot for runners who want decent cushioning.
The standout feature is the full Lightstrike Pro midsole. This foam gives you a lively, responsive ride that returns energy with each step. On climbs, it helps your legs feel fresh. On flat sections, the rocker shape encourages a smooth rollout. While it isn’t the softest cushion out there, it strikes a nice balance: plush enough for long runs, but firm enough to keep your stride efficient and grounded.
adidas widened the midsole compared to its race-oriented models, and that wider platform makes a big difference. You get better stability on uneven terrain without sacrificing quick footwork. Combined with the Continental rubber outsole and a mix of 3.5mm and 4mm lugs, you get dependable traction in both wet and dry conditions. I didn’t slip on damp rocks or loose gravel as I have in other trail shoes.
The engineered mesh upper breathes well and stays comfortable when your feet warm up. Internal reinforcements and TPU overlays lock your foot in place without creating hot spots or adding bulk. The padded tongue sits comfortably, and the serrated laces make it easy to dial in the fit. Your feet will feel secure, even on technical sections.
This shoe shines for daily training. It’s approachable for newer trail runners but has enough pep for experienced runners to use on faster efforts. You can roll out for an easy recovery run or push the pace on a tempo session. It also transitions well to road miles if your route starts or ends on pavement.
If you regularly run on muddy trails or technical routes, you might want deeper lugs or more protection. The Agravic SL prefers runnable, rocky, mixed terrain where you can open up your stride. Also, while the upper is durable for its weight, frequent scrapes against sharp rocks may wear it down faster.
The Agravic SL delivers what many runners have been asking for: a lively, cushioned trail shoe that makes everyday runs feel fun. It brings speed technology from adidas’ racing models into an everyday package at a reasonable price.
If you want a versatile shoe to refresh your trail rotation, these are well worth trying. Your legs will thank you on long-run days.
