New Balance 1080 v15 Review: A Softer, Bouncier Ride for Everyday Runs
The New Balance 1080 v15 is the latest version of a daily trainer many runners already trust for everyday miles. It keeps the soft, protective feel the series is known for, but the biggest change sits underfoot.
New Balance replaced the old Fresh Foam with their new Infinion foam. This compound blends TPEE and EVA through a supercritical process, making landings feel softer yet more lively. You get more rebound with each step than the previous version offered, so the ride stays springy. At the same time, the shoe still protects your legs on long runs or recovery days.
This new foam also helps drop the weight. A men’s size 9 weighs 261 grams (about 9.2 ounces), which is lighter than the last model. Despite the weight drop, New Balance kept a generous amount of foam: 38 mm under the heel and 32 mm under the forefoot, with a 6 mm drop. The lower weight makes the shoe feel more nimble, so it works just as well for easy jogs as it does for longer weekend efforts.
The upper got a full redesign, too. A double-layer perforated mesh wraps the foot with better breathability and a more structured hold than earlier versions. Both the tongue and heel collar feel plush from your first step, and the shoe runs true to size. The heel and midfoot fit average, while the toe box gives your toes plenty of room to splay. If your feet run wide or high-volume, New Balance still offers multiple width options.
Underfoot, the outsole uses a redesigned rubber layout that cuts excess weight but keeps rubber in high-wear zones. Transitions feel smooth, and traction is reliable on the road.
This shoe works best as a daily trainer for easy runs, recovery miles, or long efforts where comfort and protection matter more than pure speed. It also handles a bit of uptempo work better than older 1080s.
If you’ve worn previous 1080s and liked the soft ride but wanted something lighter and more energetic, the v15 is a worthy upgrade. The combination of lower weight, improved rebound, and a secure fit makes everyday runs feel easier on the legs.
