Columbia Konos Speed Trail ATR Review: A Lightweight Shoe for Fast, Everyday Miles

If you’re looking for a trail shoe that lets you pick up the pace, the Columbia Konos Speed Trail ATR is worth a look. It’s built for runners who want to move fast on mixed terrain, from gravel paths to moderate trails, without extra weight slowing them down.

At about 8.7 ounces for a men’s size 9, these feel noticeably light when you first pick them up. The upper uses a durable ripstop mesh that breathes well, so your feet stay cooler on longer efforts. No heavy overlays, just enough structure to handle the trail.

What stands out most is the midsole. Columbia uses their TechLite Ultra foam, their lightest cushioning yet, with responsive PEBA material blended in. You get solid energy return and a springy feel underfoot that encourages quicker turnover, while still absorbing enough impact for runs that go well beyond a 5K. Ground feel is good too, so you don’t lose that connection to the trail.

The outsole relies on Columbia’s Adapt Trax system with 3mm lugs. It handles wet and dry surfaces better than you’d expect from a lighter shoe, with solid traction on gravel, hard-packed dirt, and even light mud. It’s not for technical, rocky terrain, but for most everyday trail runs it keeps you stable and moving forward.

One detail I like: the Navic Fit system. It uses a lace-webbing setup that locks your heel in place, plus an elastic strap over the laces to keep everything secure mid-run. Your foot stays put, even when the trail gets uneven.

If you’re building speed into your trail routine or just want something lighter in your rotation for faster days, these deliver a balanced ride. Comfortable enough for longer efforts, responsive enough that you won’t feel sluggish.
