All-New Genesis G70 Presented in Canadian Premiere at Montreal Auto Show

Genesis Motors Canada today unveiled the all-new Genesis G70 compact luxury sport sedan in its Canadian debut during a press conference at the Montreal International Auto Show. Customers can pre-order the newest Genesis model beginning today through the brand’s comprehensive online purchase platform at www.genesis.ca. As with all Genesis models, customers can also take advantage of the exclusive Genesis at Home concierge service and have their new G70 delivered to their front door when the car arrives in Canada this spring.

The Genesis G70 is an athletic and elegant luxury sport sedan offering a graceful and dynamic exterior, a function-oriented interior, and two different powertrains – a 2.0-litre turbocharged I4 with an estimated 252 horsepower and a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 with an estimated 365 horsepower. With a rigid chassis and a wide-range of performance-enhancing components including Brembo® brakes, a mechanical Limited-Slip Differential (m-LSD), Michelin® Pilot Sport 4 tires, and a Nürburgring-tuned chassis, G70 will deliver a world-class driving experience.

As part of its standard features, Genesis G70 will offer a full-time active all-wheel drive system and advanced driver assistance systems including Forward Collision Avoidance-Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and more. Inside, the G70’s driver-oriented cabin features a highly-ergonomic design and luxurious finishes including quilted Nappa leather and brushed aluminum trim. State-of-the-art technologies like a full-colour Head-Up Display (HUD), a Multi-View Camera System, and customizable drive modes give the driver added confidence behind the wheel.

The all-new G70 will be available in six variations in the Canadian market, ranging from the well-equipped 2.0T Advanced to range-topping 3.3T Sport that encompasses all the model’s available luxury and high-performance features. For drivers seeking a more classic feel, the G70 range includes a special 2.0T Sport model featuring a six-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and a compelling mix of equipment chosen with a focus on enhancing the driving experience.

Completing the Genesis sedan lineup

The G70 is a compact luxury sport sedan completing the Genesis brand’s sedan lineup, joining the mid-size G80 and flagship full-size G90. Competing in the higher-volume compact luxury segment, it will further establish the brand’s presence in the luxury market.

Launched in November 2016, Genesis Motors Canada operates using a novel approach designed around the notion of bringing the purchase and ownership experience directly to customers, including at-home service and a complete online sales platform. Genesis vehicles are sold for transparent, easy-to-understand prices and backed by an all-inclusive ownership experience with five years of complimentary scheduled maintenance, Genesis at Home concierge service, navigation map updates, and more.

By 2021, the Genesis product portfolio will expand to six models, including SUVs and potentially alternative powertrains.

An exterior with Genesis’ unique design identity

The all-new G70’s design represents the future direction of the Genesis brand’s design identity. Athletic elegance is represented in the exterior design as the car captures both beauty and tension, like an athlete poised for action.

Luc Donckerwolke, Head of Genesis Design, said, “At Genesis, we shape fascination and desire with the passion, dedication, and talent from our designers. We modulated all parameters from the Genesis DNA to tailor a sport sedan. This challenge required the highest skills and know-how. The G70 is designed to captivate all senses with its sensuous and tensioned muscular volumes.”

The long hood and short overhangs, long wheelbase, elegant roofline, and multi-spoke alloy wheels characterize a sleek, dynamic profile view subtly highlighted by fender aero vents. The “hockey stick” beltline and parabolic sidelines further express the unique design signatures of Genesis, displaying fast and dramatic energy with voluptuous forms and smooth surfaces. The G70’s large crest-type grille and the strong character lines beginning from the emblem of the voluminous hood express the muscularity and solidity of the car. Two distinctive linear LED DRLs on each side of the large crest grille foreshadow the future Genesis signature quad lamps.

In the rear, the LED combination lamps, which continue the quad lamp theme, along with a raised trunk lid and compact bumper designs give the G70 a poised character. The rear lamps, evolved from the preceding G80, have been stretched to the corners of the rear to convey a wide and dynamic stance.

G70 Sport models are differentiated by unique dark-finish 19” alloy wheels, dark chrome exterior trim, tinted taillight lenses, and unique headlights featuring black housings and copper bezel accents.

A sophisticated, driver-focused interior with new colours and materials

G70’s interior achieves both high-function and excellent fit and finish. To emphasize functionality, interior packaging is driver-focused with simplicity being prioritized. A horizontal layout brings a sense of stability and the driver-focused packaging provides a comfortable driving environment.

The three dimensional switches of the centre fascia enhance functionality, while the sporty small-diameter steering wheel with ideally-positioned shift paddles contributes to the engaging driving experience.

For materials, Genesis designers specified genuine brushed aluminum surfaces, quilted leather door panels, metal speaker grilles, and various high-quality soft-touch surfaces throughout the interior. The G70’s dynamic yet elegant interior offers a selection of unique colour combinations, further accentuated by unique quilting patterns depending on the selection of genuine or Nappa leather, as well as for Sport models.

The G70 offers a wide range of unique and sophisticated exterior colour options that reflect global trends. Available colours include: Victoria Black, Casablanca White, Himalayan Grey, Santiago Silver, Adriatic Blue, Mallorca Blue, Havana Red, Nürburg Green, Serengeti Brown, and the Sport-exclusive Siberian Ice.

Interior colour options include Obsidian Black, Storm Grey, Caramel Brown, Velvet Burgundy, and Vanilla Beige. Sport G70 models include black Nappa leather seats with power-adjustable bolsters, available with a choice of red or grey contrast piping and stitching.

Thrilling performance

The G70 offers two engines – a 2.0-litre turbocharged I4 and a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6. Genesis G70 2.0T models come equipped with a Theta-II 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an estimated 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Drivers seeking greater performance can opt for the Lambda II 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing an estimated 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. With an exceptional power-to-weight ratio, the G70 3.3T Sport offers ferocious acceleration and a top speed of 270 km/h.

Power is routed through a standard rear-biased all-wheel drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission, with the exception of the optional 2.0T Sport package that instead features a 6-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive. For easy access to maximum acceleration off the line, all automatic G70 models feature a launch control system.

Confidence-inspiring agility

All G70 models ride on a multi-link independent suspension with a performance-oriented geometry, offering optimal wheel control and a well-judged balance between ride comfort and handling prowess. Mass was managed through the use of various aluminum components, including the hood, resulting in a base curb weight of just 1,673 kg for the Canadian market.

The vehicle’s seats feature good lateral support and are positioned to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible. G70 Sport models are further augmented with a mechanical Limited Slip Differential (m-LSD) that improves traction on corner exit by balancing torque distribution across the rear axle when wheel spin is detected. Meanwhile, the G70 3.3T Sport features variable ratio steering and electronically-controlled suspension for agile directional response and greater driver adjustability.

To this end, a Custom drive mode setting allows to driver to adjust various vehicle parameters to suit their personal preferences or current driving conditions. Adjustable elements include: powertrain response, steering weight, engine sound, all-wheel drive torque distribution, and suspension firmness (3.3T Sport). Four other drive modes are also available, including an adaptive Smart function and a Sport setting that automatically tightens the adjustable side bolsters (Sport models).

High-performance Brembo® brakes featuring fixed calipers (4 pistons front, 2 pistons rear), standard on Sport and 3.3T models, ensure exceptional stopping power as well as good fade resistance thanks to large 350 mm ventilated front rotors. On models featuring 19” wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4® tires provide sharp turn-in response and strong lateral grip.

World-class quality

Noise, vibration, and harshness have been minimized in the G70 through enhancements in multiple areas including vehicle body structure, the exhaust system, sound absorption and isolation, suspension and body frame connections, and the design of side mirrors and door sealing systems.

The performance-focused sedan has been tested in some of the world’s most challenging environments – including Death Valley (U.S.), northern Sweden, Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife, the Austrian Alps, and even Northern Québec – to ensure world-class driving stability, handling, durability, and power delivery.

Best-in-class safety

Following the trend of the G80 and G90, the G70 offers the most comprehensive levels of standard safety equipment in its class. Overall body stiffness and rigidity have been dramatically strengthened.

An unparalleled range of advanced driver assistance systems such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-spot Collision Warning (BCW), and Driver Awareness Warning (DAW) have been added as part of the Genesis Active Safety Control technology suite to offer the highest level of safety and convenience.

The FCA system provides added safety with newly developed technology designed not only to protect vehicles and pedestrians, but also cyclists on the road. It automatically activates emergency braking through integrated radar-camera sensors if an imminent collision with a bicycle is detected.

Genesis Active Safety Control is the brand’s newly-labeled advanced driver assist system package, previously known as Genesis Smart Sense.

Genesis aims to receive the highest ratings from international organizations including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The current Genesis G80 and G90 were both awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for 2018.

The all-new Genesis G70 is available for pre-order through the comprehensive Genesis online sales platform beginning on Thursday January 18, running through to March 31.
