Boston Summer 2026: Direct Flights, Tall Ships, and New Food Spots

Think Boston is just a fall destination for history buffs? This summer will change your mind. The city is gearing up for a huge season of international events and new restaurant openings that make it worth the short trip.

Getting there is easier this year. Porter Airlines launches nonstop flights from Toronto and Montreal in May, and Delta is adding a direct route from Halifax. Skip the layover and be on the waterfront by dinnertime.

The biggest draw arrives in mid-July when Sail Boston brings a fleet of international tall ships to the harbour. You can watch the Parade of Sail on July 11 or tour the docked vessels. Keep an eye out for the Bluenose II, the famous Canadian schooner from Nova Scotia.

Soccer fans also have a busy summer ahead. FIFA World Cup matches are coming to the area from mid-June through early July, turning the city into a massive fan festival. You can also catch a game with Boston Legacy FC, the city’s new professional women’s soccer team, as it finishes its first season.

You’ll find plenty of Canadian influence in the local dining scene. Vancouver’s Cactus Club Cafe recently opened its first U.S. location in Back Bay, serving its signature sushi and steaks. Later this summer, Celine opens in Fort Point. The new restaurant takes inspiration from Montreal’s tavern culture and French-Canadian roots.

If you prefer a traditional meal, head to the Union Oyster House. The country’s oldest continuously operating restaurant celebrates its 200th anniversary this year. Grab a seat at the semi-circular oyster bar for a classic New England experience.

Spend some time exploring the waterfront. Walk the Harborwalk through the Seaport District or take a ferry to the Harbor Islands. To stay active, check out the Seaport Sweat program, which offers free outdoor yoga and fitness classes on the common from May through September.

On July 1, the new Museum of American Finance opens at Commonwealth Pier. It uses interactive exhibits to explain how markets and entrepreneurship shaped the United States.

Pick an open weekend on your calendar and book one of those new direct flights.
