IKEA PS 2026: Playful Design That Makes You Smile

If you’re into furniture that actually sparks joy (without the designer price tag), check out the new IKEA PS 2026 collection.
This is the tenth time IKEA has released its PS series, and it’s still one of the most fun collections they put out. The idea is simple: take everyday pieces and add playfulness and surprise while keeping them genuinely useful and affordable. It’s a democratic design with personality.
The collection features 43 pieces this year. Here are a few standouts:
An inflatable easy chair. After decades in development, they finally nailed it with two separate air chambers inside a sturdy metal frame and a fabric cover. It doesn’t squeak, it’s comfortable, and you inflate it yourself with a foot pump (it takes about five songs on your favourite playlist). It’s light, packs small, and uses less material than traditional chairs.
A rocking bench. This piece invites you to play with it. The designer reinforced the rockers with a clever wood technique so they’re strong but fully recyclable. People testing the prototypes couldn’t help but sit down and rock. It just pulls you in.
A twistable floor lamp. You can twist this into different positions: an uplighter, a reading lamp, or a spotlight. The designer cut a cylinder at 45 degrees and played with the geometry so the piece adapts depending on how you orient it.
You’ll also find a dining table with a hidden drawer that pulls out from both ends, a periscope-shaped clock, a multi-position chair, plus colourful rugs, cushions, and hand-blown glass vases. Everything encourages you to interact with it instead of just looking at it.
What I like is that the playfulness serves a purpose. These aren’t gimmicks. They’re thoughtful solutions for small spaces, changing needs, or just wanting your home to feel more fun. The pieces stay true to their Scandinavian roots (clean lines, good proportions) but stretch them in unexpected ways.
The whole collection is now available in IKEA stores across Canada and on IKEA.ca.
