Get Your Glamp On! A Mother’s Day Adventure at The Met

Mother’s Day is a wonderful time to show appreciation for all the incredible moms and mom figures in our lives. And if you’re looking for a fun, slightly different way to celebrate this year, Metropolis at Metrotown has something pretty cool going on.

From now until May 19th, 2025, the Met is hosting their annual Mother’s Day celebration, “We Love Moms & Mother Nature.” This year, they’ve added an adventurous twist that is a blast for the whole family: an indoor “glampsite”!

The Grand Court has been transformed into an epic indoor camping experience, complete with different themed zones. You can explore a tropical tiki bar area, wander through a tented grassland bedroom setup, check out a camp-inspired kitchen, and even find a beachside games room. There’s a cozy faux campfire setup too, plus fun spot-the-wildlife games hidden throughout for both kids and adults to enjoy.

Getting there is part of the fun – you enter this indoor nature scene through a big, inflatable tree! Inside, you’ll find light-festooned trees and charming campground details, all set against a cool mountains-and-forest backdrop with a whimsical hot air balloon floating above. It’s a creative escape designed by the folks at Lazy Wizard, and it really makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a different world.

They’ve teamed up with Decathlon for this event – which is fitting, since Decathlon just celebrated its first anniversary of having its flagship store right there at the Met! It’s a neat way to get a little taste of outdoor fun right inside the shopping centre.

Beyond the glampsite experience, there’s a special event happening just for moms (and everyone who loves them!). On Friday, May 10th, from noon to 2 pm, the Met is hosting a ticketed Mother’s Day party. It’s a chance for moms to relax and have some fun with music, sips (cocktails and wine for the adults!), light bites, DIY s’mores, photo ops, and crafts. Each adult ticket even includes a gift bag with a $20 Met gift card. Tickets are $40 for adults, $5 for kids aged 5-15, and free for kids 4 and under. Plus, ticket proceeds go towards supporting Burnaby Family Life’s Women Driving Their Future program, which is pretty fantastic.

And if you’re planning on doing some Mother’s Day shopping while you’re there, they have a little incentive for you. If you spend $200 (before taxes) at the Met, you can get a $20 reward card. This offer is running from April 24th until they run out of cards. As an extra bonus, for each reward card redeemed, the Met is donating $5 (up to $5,000 total) to the Burnaby Fire Department. It’s a nice way to treat mom and give back to the community.

Metropolis at Metrotown always does a great job of creating fun, unique experiences, and this Mother’s Day event is a lovely way to celebrate the special women in our lives while enjoying a little bit of indoor nature magic.
