Coast’s 20th Anniversary with Top-to-Bottom Refresh of the Interior and Exterior Spaces
Glowbal Restaurant Group is celebrating Coast’s 20th anniversary by embarking on a top-to-bottom refresh of the interior and exterior spaces at the iconic downtown dining destination before welcoming guests into the new space at 1054 Alberni Street on Saturday, January 14.
Coast quickly carved out a reputation as one of Vancouver’s top stops for true seafood fare thanks to an ever-changing menu of locally sourced, sustainably procured seafood and shellfish, sushi, showstopping seafood and caviar towers and a thoughtfully curated list of classic and contemporary cocktails, craft beer and wines hailing from BC’s backyard and beyond served from a famed bar that serves as the hub for the restaurant.
The project is spearheaded by Toronto-based Navigate Design, which has turned spaces into unforgettable stories at acclaimed bars, cafés and restaurants across North America and overseas like Toronto’s Mira and Fairmont Royal York, The Cedar Room at Kananaskis, Weslodge and Sweet Salvation in Dubai, highly anticipated Black+Blue Toronto and more.
Navigate’s blueprints breathe new life into the existing space and retain the identity that has earned Coast its reputation as one of Vancouver’s most beloved culinary destinations. The new space will showcase an abundance of natural materials and plush upholstery to bolster an inviting and intimate feel throughout the area as well as a luxurious new private dining room that joins the existing Port and Starboard Rooms and O Lounge.
Custom murals used throughout the ground floor will infuse the space with subtle pops of colour and narrative and conjure an oceanfront feel, white linen banners hung from the ceiling will add an element of softness, while bespoke light fixtures serve to provide a sense of warmth.
“We’re excited to build on Coast’s place as one of the city’s culinary institutions, with a new look and feel that honours our origin story while also looking to the future,” says Glowbal Restaurant Group Founder and CEO Emad Yacoub. “Longtime Coast fans need not worry — that signature service, food and style they have come to know and love will continue to be on full display. We look forward to welcoming old and new faces alike to join us in making a toast to the new Coast.”
The kitchen brigade will continue to be led by Executive Chef Fernando Burgues, who worked alongside Michelin-starred chefs in the UK (Roux at the Landau, The Wolseley) and Spain (El Serbal, Casona del Judio)before taking the helm of the Coast kitchen in 2022. The front-of-house family will be overseen by Wine Director Sarah McCauley who has worked at notable locations like Blue Water Café, Cin Cin, Wedgewood Hotel, and Notch 8.
