Holiday Magic at Metropolis at Metrotown: Vancouver’s biggest shopping centre gives back during the Christmas season

Santa Claus has cast his magic over Metropolis at Metrotown! Starting November 15, British Columbia’s biggest shopping centre will come alive with festive performances, a community toy drive, and photos with Santa. Proceeds raised will be donated to Burnaby-based non-profit organizations.

‘Tis the season to shop for Christmas presents, and there’s nowhere better to check off every name on your list than Metropolis at Metrotown. Here, over 330 stores beckon holidaymakers with fashion, electronics, homeware, beauty, health and more, along with necessary services for holiday shoppers, including daycare, drycleaning, and spa treatments. Plus, this season will see the arrival of new shopping experience Daiso, a Japanese variety discount store; and OVO, Toronto rapper Drake’s new clothing brand, which opened its second Vancouver location at the centre in fall.

Beginning November 15, visitors to Metropolis at Metrotown can take a break between purchases to watch an enthralling roster of performances. The family-friendly lineup features magic acts, circus performances, and musical stylings.

Younger visitors won’t want to miss an audience with Santa, who will be returning to the shopping centre after a two-year hiatus. Parents can capture their kiddos’ special moments in Santa’s Winter Wonderland – complete with a dazzling backdrop of snow and icebergs – with professional photos, which are available by $10 donation. All proceeds will go to Burnaby Christmas Bureau, which supports over 8,000 people each year with childcare, immigrant and refugee support, family and seniors’ resources, and other programs. New this year, photos with Santa can be booked in advance online and a reservation slot secured, allowing visitors to avoid waiting in lengthy lineups. The photo will be provided digitally, along with a candy cane and Christmas activity sheet for the children.

Additional holiday happenings at Metropolis at Metrotown include gift wrapping by donation (starting December 1), with all proceeds going to Burnaby Neighbourhood House; and a toy drive (December 2 – 4), in collaboration with Burnaby Firefighters Charitable Society, with toys donated to Burnaby Christmas Bureau.

“We are thrilled to welcome Santa back to Metropolis at Metrotown and provide festive programming for all ages this holiday season,” said Amanda Chung, marketing manager, Metropolis at Metrotown. “Giving back to the community, particularly people in need, is one of the most important lessons of Christmas, which is why our programming revenues will be donated to local organizations. We are very proud to be part of the Burnaby community, and we hope to make a real difference to residents and shoppers this year.”

Metropolis at Metrotown offers free parking and easy Skytrain access to visitors all year long. The shopping centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 9pm; and Sundays 11am – 7pm. Special holiday hours apply November 25, 8am – 10pm; December 24, 10am – 6pm; December 26, 8am – 10pm; and December 31, 10am – 6pm. The centre will be closed on Christmas Day.
