Arc’teryx Norvan Windshell Hoody Review: Breathable, Ultralight Wind Protection

Spring trail runs can be unpredictable. One minute you’re warming up nicely, the next a cold wind cuts across an exposed ridge or a quick shower rolls through. That’s exactly when the Arc’teryx Norvan Windshell Hoody earns its keep.

At just 107 grams (3.8 ounces), it’s so light you forget you’re wearing it until you need it. The fabric blocks wind effectively, while the underarm and side panels let air move through so you don’t overheat during hard efforts. It’s not a waterproof rain jacket, but the water-repellent finish handles light showers and misty conditions well.

What I like most is how practical it is for actual running. The trim fit stays close without restricting your movement, and the articulated patterning lets you climb and descend freely. There’s even a small window in each sleeve so you can easily check your watch. The hood adjusts low and stays out of your peripheral vision.

The jacket stuffs into its own chest pocket and disappears in your hydration vest. On days when the weather looks iffy, toss it in and forget about it. When conditions change, pull it on and keep moving instead of cutting your run short.

It’s also made with recycled materials, meets bluesign standards, and was produced in a Fair Trade Certified facility.

If you’re building out your spring trail kit and want one layer that handles variable mountain weather without weighing you down, this is worth a look. I’ve used mine on everything from cool morning runs to windy summits, and it just works.
