An Evening of Healing and Presence: SENSES at the Orpheum on November 29th

Get ready for a different kind of night out. On November 29th, an event called SENSES is coming to the Orpheum Theatre. It’s a unique orchestral show that mixes live music with guided mindfulness and beautiful visuals to support men’s mental health.
This special, one-night-only performance is the creation of local composer and entrepreneur Wendy Yau Sum Cheung. Inspired by her own family’s experiences with mental health, she created SENSES to offer a space for healing and reflection. All the money from ticket sales will be donated to HeadsUpGuys, a Vancouver-based organization that is a leading resource for men’s mental health.
The 90-minute show is designed to be a full sensory experience, inviting you to connect with the music and yourself on a deeper level. The goal is for everyone to leave with something they need, whether it’s a feeling of peace, a moment of clarity, or just the simple joy of being moved by beautiful music. The performance will feature the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, led by the acclaimed conductor Maestro Kenneth Hsieh.
Wendy Yau Sum Cheung’s path to creating SENSES is a story of creativity and resilience. Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver, music has been a constant in her life since childhood. After a childhood operation, her mother signed her up for piano lessons to help strengthen her arm, sparking a lifelong passion. She went on to study composition at the UBC School of Music and even signed a songwriting contract with Universal Music at 18.
Despite a successful career in business, Wendy felt a pull to return to her musical roots. This led her back to composing, collaborating with renowned artists in Asia, and directing large-scale musical productions in Vancouver. SENSES is a project that brings together her talents in music and her desire to make a positive impact in her community.
The concert is raising funds for a vital local resource. HeadsUpGuys, provides men with information and support for managing depression. Sadly, men are often reluctant to seek help for mental health issues, and they have a higher rate of suicide than women. Organizations like HeadsUpGuys offer a safe starting point for men to learn about their mental health and find the help they need. By attending SENSES, you are directly contributing to this important work.
So, if you’re looking for a meaningful way to spend an evening, this event is a great choice. You’ll get to enjoy a truly special performance at one of the city’s most beautiful venues while supporting a cause that affects many people in our community.
The event takes place on November 29, 2025, at the Orpheum Theatre. The show runs from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Tickets start at $48 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.ca. Group tickets are also available, making it a good option for a team-building event that gives back. You can find more information at sensesconcert.com.
