How to Get the Most Out of the New Aeroplan and World of Hyatt Partnership

We’ve all been there. You have a pile of airline miles in one account, and some hotel points in another, but neither balance is enough for a free trip. It’s frustrating when your rewards don’t talk to each other. Thankfully, Air Canada’s Aeroplan and World of Hyatt recently launched a partnership to bridge this gap, allowing you to link your accounts and share benefits.
This partnership makes planning trips easier because you can earn rewards in both programs at the same time. Once you link your accounts, you can swap points, earn double rewards on stays, and even fast-track your way to elite status. Here’s how it works and how to get the most out of it.
Doubling Up on Points
With this partnership, you can still choose to earn 500 Aeroplan points per stay instead of Hyatt points. But the real value comes if you hold a Canadian Aeroplan credit card.
Linking your accounts helps you earn rewards in both programs at the same time. For example, if you hold a premium Aeroplan credit card, you’ll earn 2 World of Hyatt bonus points plus 2 Aeroplan points for every eligible Canadian dollar spent at Hyatt properties. If you have a core Aeroplan card, you’ll earn 1 Hyatt bonus point and 1.5 Aeroplan points per dollar.
Swapping Your Points
You can also move points between your accounts, though the terms depend on your status. Anyone can convert World of Hyatt points to Aeroplan points at a 2:1 ratio (starting at a 5,000-point minimum). If you want to go the other way, you must have Aeroplan Elite Status. Eligible elite members can convert Aeroplan points to Hyatt points at that same 2:1 ratio, starting at 500 points.
If you prefer to keep your points where they are, you can still redeem them directly for partner rewards. You can book a Hyatt Free Night Award using Aeroplan points, with stays starting at 25,000 points for Category 1 to 4 hotels. On the flip side, you can redeem 50,000 Hyatt points for a 30,000-point Aeroplan flight reward certificate, valid for flights on Air Canada or its partners.
Fast-Tracking Your Elite Status
Status matches and challenges are often complicated, but this partnership keeps things simple. If you have Aeroplan Elite status or a premium Aeroplan credit card, you can sign up for an annual 90-day challenge to fast-track your Hyatt status. You can get Discoverist status after 4 nights, Explorist after 10 nights, or Globalist after 20 nights during that window.
Premium Aeroplan cardholders get an even better deal. You receive free Hyatt Discoverist status just for holding the card and linking your accounts. This tier gives you elite check-in and late checkout up to 2 p.m. when available. You also get 5 tier-qualifying night credits every year to help you reach higher status tiers faster.
You’ll find perks on the Hyatt side of the program, too. When you link your accounts, Hyatt Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist members receive a $20 CAD Air Canada flight credit. Later in 2026, Hyatt Explorists and Globalists will also get access to challenges to fast-track toward Aeroplan Elite status.
How to Get Started
All you need to do is log into your Aeroplan or Hyatt account, find the partnership page, and enter your details. Once linked, the benefits will apply automatically to your upcoming flights and hotel stays. If you have travel planned for this year, linking your accounts today is the easiest way to ensure you don’t leave any points on the table.
