Temporary 4 month protection order for Waldorf Hotel

Temporary 4 month protection order for Waldorf Hotel

City of Vancouver has granted a 120-day protection order for the Waldorf Hotel to give city council time to do a heritage assessment.

“As we’ve done over the past four years, we need to take every step we can as a council to ensure we have a thriving arts and culture community and economy. I think this is an immediate tool we can use in the mix,” says Mayor Gregor Robertson.

Waldorf Productions is set to shut down operations this weekend after the building was sold to Solterra. The condo developer has no plans to demolish the hotel “at this point.”

A report on the heritage assessment is due May 15.
