Five Canadians Selected As Participants In Red Bull Music Academy Montreal 2016
After sifting through 3,500 applications from 102 different countries, Red Bull Music Academy has selected the 70 lucky emerging artists that will be invited to attend Montreal’s upcoming Academy program. This year, over 300 Canadian artists applied, making it the greatest number of Canadian applications ever received. This included more than 60 from British Columbia, 25 from Alberta, more than 80 from Ontario, 120 from Quebec, and almost 30 from other smaller regions nation-wide.
In total, 38 countries will be represented at Red Bull Music Academy Montreal, which will also make it the widest array of nationalities ever to attend a single edition of the program. It will bring phenomenal diversity to an already thriving multicultural metropolis, and will include a Kansas-raised atmospheric guitarist/singer; a Latvian producer specializing in “post new age, documentary beatsâ€; a Taiwanese trap and grime producer/DJ; and a producer from Tehran, who creates saturated, somnambulant electronica, in a city where nightclubs are outlawed.
