200 screenings taking place across British Columbia for world’s largest film festival
National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) promises to be the world’s largest film festival – ever. And now there’s proof. REEL CANADA, the not-for-profit organization hosting NCFD 150 in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, released a Google Map, showing all screenings taking place in Canada and across the world. Through this map, Canadians can see that in Kazakhstan, the Embassy of Canada will be screening The Rocket, and in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong International Film Festival will be playing Window Horses. Canadians can also use the map to find a National Canadian Film Day screening in their community.
In British Columbia alone there are more than 200 screenings taking place across the province. A few interesting local events include:
The 20th anniversary of Atom Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter at Vancity Theatre in Vancouver, hosted in partnership with Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF). The venue will have an entire day of programming designed to celebrate Egoyan, with The Sweet Hereafter screening at 7:00 p.m., and a Q&A with Atom Egoyan and actor Bruce Greenwood to follow.
Screening of Empire of Dirt at the Shatford Centre in Penticton in partnership with the En’owkin Centre at 7:00 p.m. The En’owkin Centre is working with the local arts council to present a mini-film festival of their own, including workshops, and artist talks from local filmmakers.
