Spa Review: Hammam and Gommage detox at Miraj Hammam Spa
From the moment you enter, you are transported into a Moroccan oasis. The space is beautifully decorated with intricate carvings, arched doorways and exquisite Moroccan furnishings. Jennifer warmly greeted me and handed me a pair of slippers.
Since opening its door in November 2000, Miraj Hammam Spa has garner the title of #34 best spa in North America, #12 best spa in Canada, and #1 best spa in Vancouver. The spa is frequented by locals, tourists and celebrity guests.
Our busy life constantly put us out of balance. We tend to overwork and put lots of stress on our body and mind. We often forget to take care of our health. Courtesy of Miraj Hammam Spa, I had the opportunity to experience the Fresh Start Seaweed Detox. For centuries, Hammam was known as the silent doctor. It was a place of cleansing and healing for both body and soul.
To begin my Hammam and Gommage treatment, Veronica took me into the locker room and ask to change into my sarong. Then she instructed me to stay hydrated and drink lots of water while at the sauna. I was then guided into a private Jerusalem gold marble steam room. Within 10 minutes in the eucalyptus infused room, I was completely relax and stress free. The eucalyptus steam help lift the dead skin cells and allow toxins to rise to the surface.
After half an hour, I was ready for full body exfoliation. Laying in a marble slab, Veronica apply a seaweed masque to draw out the toxins and impurities while adding essential nutrients back into the skin. Later, use black Moroccan soap for a deep cleanse and exfoliate the uppermost layers of the skin. My skin was left feeling soft and renew.
Katy led me into another room for my relaxing orientale massage. Throughout the full body massage, she apply eucalyptus and lemon oil to help promote a softer, rejuvenated skin. It was a stressful week at the office and ask Katy to focus more on my shoulder. It felt so good.
Afterwards I was escorted to the Sultana Lounge with velvet beds and silk pillows. The full body detox ended with chai tea and delicious sweet cake. I just enjoy the moment – quite and peaceful away from my smartphone and busy city life.
You can bring the spa experience home. Miraj Hammam sell the same essentials oils and soap use in Hammam and Gommage treatment in the boutique.
