Review: Skinceuticals skincare for Men (Holiday Gift Guide)
There are some key difference between men and women’s skin which require the use of specific skin care treatments. For one, men shave which tend to dehydrate the skin in the chin area. In addition, daily shaving cause scraping and nicks and destroy the hydrolipidic film, the skin’s natural protective barrier. Men also sweat more causing other areas of the face to have large pores and oily skin. Higher oil production means that a man’s skin is more susceptible to acne related problems and other blemishes.
Dr. Sheldon R Pinnell, SkinCeuticals founding scientist, innovated the use of topical antioxidants. SkinCeuticals pioneered the advent of cosmeceuticals. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products with biologically active ingredients claiming to enhance skincare efficacy. SkinCeuticals product are designed to improve skin health and repair damage that causes specific skin conditions and visible signs of aging such as fine lines and hyperpigmentation. All products are backed by science that proves their efficacy. For the past weeks, I’ve been testing the Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Gel, Epidermal Repair and Antioxidant Lip Repair.
After my morning shaving routine, I apply 2 drops of Phyto Corrective Gel. One of the key ingredients in the gel serum are thyme and cucumber extracts with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties to help soothe and calm my irritated skin. While the botanical glycosides is a unique blend of plant derivatives help fade discoloration and hyperpigmentation.
Afterwards, I apply a small amount of the Epidermal Repair. The Epidermal Repair is specifically formulated to accelerate restoration of the skin’s protective barrier. One of the active ingredient is beta glucan which strengthen the skin’s protective abilities and help accelerate renewal of the upper layers of the skin. The other is titrated extract of centella asiatica which protect the skin against irritation especially in the shave area. It also soothes my skin and help reduce the inflammation.
Lastly, I use a light application of the Antioxidant Lip Repair. The lip repair contained two powerful antioxidants, vitamin E and silymarin, which neutralizes free radicals and prevents signs of aging. It heal my dry lips from the harsh cold weather.
Overall, within a few days, I seen a dramatic improvement in my skin. My skin feels rejuvenated and revitalized. It eliminated the razor burn and other blemishes in my chin and neck and soothed the irritation. I can’t recommend these products highly enough.
