Tacofino Announces New Location in Vancouver’s Financial District

Tacofino will bring its celebrated Baja-by-way-of-West-Coast cuisine to the heart of Downtown Vancouver when it opens the doors on its latest restaurant at 1050 West Pender Street in the Bentall One building late this summer.

Located a stone’s throw from its popular food truck that has been a familiar sight at Dunsmuir and Burrard since 2012, Tacofino Bentall is the newest member of an ever-growing Tacofino family that was born in 2009 when cofounders Jason Sussman and Kaeli Robinsong launched the original Tacofino Cantina in Tofino, BC. Today, Tacofino encompasses a fleet of food trucks, five brick-and-mortar restaurants in Vancouver and Victoria, a growing workforce of more than 250 employees and a legion of loyal fans.

Serving up an array of eat-in and take-out tacos and burritos — in addition to exciting new menu items designed by Sussman and Michelin-starred culinary talent Stefan Hartmann, who recently joined the family as Regional Executive Chef in May — Tacofino Bentall features a fully-licenced, 1,350-sq.-ft. counter-service space that offers a 30-seat dining room and 10-seat patio and will be open for service from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Vancouver designer Shiloh Sukkau, who oversaw the ’70s-themed, windswept décor of Tacofino’s Gastown location (2015) and blueprinted the SoCal surf-punk layout of Tacofino Yaletown (2016), worked closely with Robinsong for the design of Tacofino Bentall, turning to mid-century Mexican resort towns like Acapulco as inspiration to evoke a relaxed-yet-stylish feel.

“We’ve enjoyed being part of this Downtown neighbourhood for five years already with our White Lightening truck and we’re now stoked to offer this new permanent location,” says Sussman. “We might be growing in size, but we never forget the principles on which we were founded — serving up quality, fresh and affordable menus that are individualized for each unique location.”
