Starbucks red cups feature customer art for the first time
Starbucks Canada announce that for the first time, its beloved Red Cups will feature designs created by customers – and two of them are Canadian!
For years, Starbucks customers have been decorating their white and red cups, and last year Starbucks invited customers to share their designs on Instagram, using #RedCupArt.
In just eight days, Starbucks received more than 1,200 submissions from around the world and eventually 13 customer designs were selected from six countries to represent the collective spirit of the holidays around the world.
One of this year’s red cup designs is by Canada’s very own Erica, a paralegal from Ontario with a passion for drawing. This year’s red cup campaign is about acceptance and coming together to rejoice in the holidays, even though we celebrate different things. This is something Canadian Erica can relate to as she celebrates both Hanukkah and Christmas over the holiday season. The inspiration from behind Erica’s design came from colouring books, an activity Erica took up with her sister as she supported her during knee surgery. One day, she decided to switch to doodling on a Starbucks red cup, and Graphic Swirls was born. Erica’s Graphic Swirls will be available in stores across Canada, Latin America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
