McDonald’s debut MacCoin to celebrate Big Mac’s 50th Anniversary

For the Big Mac’s 50th anniversary, McDonald’s Canada is giving away 50,000 MacCoins across the country. It’s the first fully food-backed currency.

Each coin is redeemable for one Big Mac at participating restaurants around the world. Over 6.2 million MacCoins will be distributed in more 14,000 restaurants in 50 countries.

There are five unique designs representing 1 of the 5 decades the Big Mac – flower power for the 1970s, pop art for the 1980s, abstract shapes for the 1990s, technology for the 2000s, and evolution of communication for the 2010s.
