The Macallan unveils the new Double Cask 12 Years Old to the Canadian Market

It is often said that when two worlds come together, they can create something magical, or simply extraordinary. For The Macallan, this is the core truth behind its latest single malt; The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old. Launching in Canadian markets in early 2017 (dates vary by region) as a permanent addition to the range, Double Cask is a partnership between American oak and European oak Casks and marries them together for a perfectly balanced whisky.

The Macallan’s unwavering commitment to exceptional wood management defines every aspect of its whisky creation and the launch of the new The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old is further testament to this.

It is a single malt that tells the story of a journey; a story, which brings together different worlds to create exceptional liquid. For Double Cask, The Macallan brings new oak from America across thousands of miles to Spain, where casks are crafted and sherry seasoned before travelling to The Macallan distillery on Speyside. At the distillery they are filled with new make spirit and left to mature for twelve years. These whiskies are the harmoniously united with those aged in exceptional sherry seasoned European oak casks. This union of wood, sherry and whisky reveals an unmatched investment in time and extraordinary commitment to mastery for which The Macallan has been known since 1824.

The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old delivers a prominent, unmistakable American oak style with a backdrop of European oak, combined in perfect harmony of flavours and 100% natural colour. The delicate flavour of American oak – vanilla, citrus and light oak – takes centre stage as the traditional Macallan character of rich fruit, sherry and wood spice, credited to the European oak, affords a familiar backdrop. The result is a whisky that is perfectly balanced, beyond the ordinary.

Bob Dalgarno, The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, says, “[Double Cask] is a single malt which celebrates the coming together of two styles to create a fully rounded and distinctive flavour. By combining wood influences, we have been able to produce a new Macallan.” It offers a new style of The Macallan to drinkers looking to explore and discover. With its approachable flavour, and cost, this will appeal to the current Macallan lover and the next generation.
