White Rock Uptown Street Festival – September 8, 2012
The Merchants of Uptown are proud to host the second annual Uptown Companion Dog Show! The show will draw top dogs from around the peninsula to compete for prizes and the coveted title “Judges Favourite”.
The only dog show in White Rock will take place at Central Plaza, North Bluff Road, White Rock on Saturday, September 8th with the show starting at 2:00pm.
Registration is available on the day. The entry fee for the show is by donation and the money raised for this event will go towards the SPCA and the work that they do. Prizes will be awarded for “Judges Favourite” and best in category for “Small, Medium and Large” Breeds and the favourite audience category “Most Like Owner”.
The Companion Dog Show is just one part of the Uptown Street & Art Festival taking place from 11am until 4pm. The Festival is packed with other special events and attractions, including an Art Walk, Todd Brewer Music Stage, Sidewalk Sales, Decorated Bike Contest & Parade, Chili Cook Off Contest, Pirate Encampment & Games and the Art Exhibition (Russell Ave). Come out and join the 1st Annual Uptown Decorated Bike & Scooter Parade. The activities are for both children & the young at heart which include safety demonstrations and checks on the bikes & scooters. The parade will start 12pm but come early for the demos and judging at Central Plaza!
Entry into the parade is free and bike riders are required by law to wear a helmet and we request parents escort their children along the parade route. Judging will take place at the start of the parade route. Judging is based on creativity and originality. Age categories are 3 – 5, 6 – 9, 10 – 13 and Seniors.
Uptown Art Walk – Stroll the streets of Uptown and see the exhibits of various artists hosted by Uptown merchants. Artists wanting to exhibit should contact the Semiahmoo Arts for further information and to submit their work. The event is free and open to the public. You could even walk away with your own piece of art! Visitors to the exhibits will be given an Art Walk passport which will be stamped at each of the visits on the walk. When the minimum number of stamps have been competed visitors can enter the draw to win one of the pieces of exhibited art work. The event is in partnership with the Outside the Box Exhibition. taking place September 8th to October 5th.
The Chili Cook Off Contest is back too! Purchase your Tasting Kit to support the White Rock Millenium Rotary’s local projects and charities. Tasting Kits will be sold during the event for $5.00. Each tasting kit includes chili tasting card, sample of bread, and people’s choice award ballot. Those with tasting kits get to taste different community chilis and vote for their favourite.
