- BUT only 19% of British Columbians are registered on the organ donor registry?
This gap between “will do†and “did do†is costing lives. In BC, over 2,800 kidney patients are currently on dialysis. The wait time for a kidney organ donation is up to five years. Some of those people won’t last.
The Kidney Foundation is committed to closing this gap and YOU CAN HELP. The Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch will celebrate its 6th annual Kidney Walk in August and September of 2013. In year one, a fledgling group of 7 communities successfully came together to make a difference in the lives of kidney patients and their families. In 2012, 19 communities around BC joined forces to champion this extraordinary grassroots event. These walks have expanded to include dragon boat teams and even competitive runs in select communities.
On Sunday August 25th, 2013 Vancouver will be hosting its first annual KIDNEY WALK to raise funds and awareness of organ donation that will help support the work of The Kidney Foundation. Everyone can be a hero. Join in, sponsor a walker, volunteer and/or register to be an organ donor.
You can sign up for free to register in the 2.5K Walk, 2.5K Dragonboat Paddle, 5K Fun Run, or 5K Cycle, or you can also sign up to participate in the 1st Annual Vancouver Kidney Run taking place at the Vancouver Kidney Walk, brought to you with the assistance of The Running Room. Kidney Run categories are 5K or 10K, and time will be kept by official timekeepers from BC Athletics located at the gate. Kidney run rates are listed above and include a race kit package to be picked up at Running Room locations and at the registration booth on the day of event.
