TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival – August 10 – 11, 2013

This weekend, the Vancouver Chinatown BIA society will once again host the incredible TD Vancouver Chinatown Festival in the neighborhood (10th &11th August, 2013, at Columbia & Keefer Street).

Last year, about 60,000 festival goers converged on the streets of Columbia and Keefer in historic Chinatown to experience the biggest multicultural summer celebration in town. Festival activities included day market, “Historical & Food Tasting Walking tour”, Kids corner, multicultural stage performances, Cultural Corner, TD Youth Talent Showdown, Young Star Challenge, theme related activities and Streetfest.

With this year’s slogan “Discover Chinatown. Explore the World”, we will have more elements and innovative new programs into the festival!

Highlights

TD Youth Talent Showdown 2013

Every year, TD Youth Talent Showdown attracts a large crowd of youths that have passions and dreams on their talents. They share their skill, experience and creativity to our community. At the same time, we see them grow and improve from audition, prelims and show us their best performance in the Finals. Together, the contestants and the competition develop a growth of community passion, pride in exposure and friendship.

This year, TD Youth Talent Showdown is back again for another exciting competition! If you think you’ve got talent and you are between the ages of 13-20, this is your chance to shine! Not only are Youths encouraged to participate in a community event, they also learn how they can become a future star.

Streetfest 2013

August 10, 6pm-10pm – streetside of Chinatown Festival.

The first Streetfest of its kind in Chinatown! Streetfest 2013 featured professional Djs from Vancouver’s hottest clubs, fun games, and lots of booths. Partnering up with Anime Revolution this year, there will have a series of Anime Cosplay activities, such as “walk-off” contest and more. Perfect for a night out with your friends, come down and join the fun!

Day Market

Day Market is located at 100 block of Keefer Street. The Day Market will contain a wide variety of merchandises and food from different cultures. This is your chance to try dishes you have never tried before. Bring home gifts and souvenirs from the many booths throughout the Day Market.

Cultural Corner

Learn and experience different cultures in this corner. You can find ceramic demonstration, traditional Chinese wedding sedan chair, calligraphy, rickshaw, origami, turban demonstration and much more! Don’t forget to register the “Historical Chinatown Heritage and Food Tasting Tour” at Walking Tour Info Booths on site. We will lead you to visit heritage buildings and to sample Vancouver Chinatown’s favorite foods. Each tour lasts about 30 – 45 minutes and begins at Chinese Monument Square every half hour (Registration fee — $5 each).

Kids Corner

Fun fun fun! For those of you who like challenge, risk and excitement, join us at this Corner where you can bring your child or bring out your inner-child! Activities include a giant inflatable interactive game, face-painting, and balloon twisting!
