Surrey Tree Lighting Festival – December 3, 2011
The City of Surrey will illuminate Central City Plaza on December 3rd and light the City’s official Christmas tree at the annual Tree Lighting event presented by Coast Capital Savings. The highlight of this spectacular family event will involve Mayor and Council joining Frosty and Santa as they turn the switch to light the City’s official Christmas tree and kick off the holiday season in Surrey.
The City of Surrey is excited to bring the community together for the annual tree lighting ceremony, which will be a free and fun event to launch the holiday season and showcase our festive spirit. I encourage everyone to come down and enjoy the great entertainment!
Headliners announced today included These Kids Wear Crowns and Canadian Pop sensation Fefe Dobson. These Kids Wear Crowns will bring their big, boisterous sing-along electro dance-pop songs including last year’s breakthrough gold single “Break It Up.”
Fefe Dobson will deliver a no-holds-barred collection of full-throttle rock & roll that spotlights her skills as a singer, songwriter and performer. Dobson burst onto the music scene with her debut album in 2003, which spawned four hit singles.
The tree lighting ceremony will be highlighted with a special performance by Touch of Brass, one of BC’s best brass ensembles.
The Surrey Tree Lighting Festival has been relocated to the Plaza at the foot of Central City Tower (102 Avenue and 135 Street) and broadened to include winter activities such as road hockey and curling. In addition to live music, families can enjoy plenty of holiday cheer with hot chocolate, face painters, kid’s crafts and ice carving demos.
Gates open at 2:00 pm with the Tree Lighting Ceremony slated for 5pm and the double-bill concert finale at 7 pm. The entire festival is free for the public and the Surrey Food Bank will be onsite to collect donations.
