Confidence, hope and improved health are not only essentials on the baseball diamond, but in life. The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation (VCBF) is excited to welcome back 300 local children, supporting and educating the smiling faces that light up Scotiabank Field every summer. On Friday, July 4 in association with the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC, the VCBF returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium to help local children in need.

“We’re given the opportunity to make a big difference in these children’s lives. To see them grow as individuals and as athletes, nothing else compares”, says Jake Kerr, Co-Chairman of the VCBF. “Not only do we provide them with baseball equipment, but we also arm them with much more – courage, confidence and opportunity.”

Children between the ages of 6-11 have the opportunity to play organized baseball on the same field as the C’s – the chance to be mentored by local personalities and influential community figures. The Foundation League runs over a seven-week period with a total of six dates. Each child will receive brand new equipment (glove, bag, helmet, etc.), free meals and free transportation to and from the stadium. Legendary athletes or inspirational leaders will give weekly ‘pep talks’ to strengthen the self-esteem and leadership skills of the participating children.

“It takes countless volunteers and the commitment of a community to successfully operate our Foundation League”, says Co-Chairman, Jeff Mooney. “The success of VCBF is due to the generosity of those involved – and it pays off. The Boys & Girls Club of South Coast BC is incredibly supportive – we value our partnership and the ability to make a difference together.”

“We can’t wait to launch this year’s Foundation League and see the kids grow both on and off the field,” says Carolyn Tuckwell, President & CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC. “Seeing their enjoyment is indescribable, it’s a highlight for us summer after summer.”

The VCBF League launches Friday, July 4 at 4:30pm at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.

Subsequent dates are July 10, July 21, July 31, August 8 and August 15.
