Hello Vancity Profile: Mark Ernsting, Race Director of the 2012 Original 16 UBC Grand Prix

The second UBC Grand Prix, part of BC Superweek, will take place on July 10th. The event features not only a criterium race open to Pro/Am male and female cyclists competing for over $10,000 in prize money, but also a Kids’ Race and a Corporate Challenge.

Here is the schedule of events:

3:15: Corporate Challenge

Team of 4 riders (no riding experience required) participating in a relay. It can be a teambuilding experience or simply four cyclists who want to put a team together. There will have about 20 teams participating. The whole idea is that for a couple of minutes, you really get to feel what it is like to be a pro rider!

4:15: Kids’ Race

The Kids’ Race provides an opportunity for kids 12 and under to race on the course just like the pros! It’s free to sign up!

5:15 – 6:15: Pro Women

6:30 – 7:45: Pro Men

Athletes will race a 1-km circuit and navigate around the course for 40-65 laps. Spectators will be entertained by the athletes sprinting for cash prizes that will be awarded throughout the race making for an exciting afternoon and evening of fun.

This year’s events will have a new course that will be more challenging and technical for the riders.
