Gastown Jazz Weekend – June 25 & 26, 2011 – 1:45 to 8:00 PM Vancouver’s Best Street Party – Free Concerts
The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival’s free two-day street festival—Gastown Jazz Weekend—is one of the Festival’s biggest, most anticipated events and draws tens of thousands of music lovers annually. On June 25 and 26 historic Gastown becomes an open-air party with 10 Canadian and international acts spread over the first weekend of the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival.
Two free stages at either end of Water Street—the Maple Tree Square Stage and The Vancouver Sun Stage at the Steam Clock—provide continuous music from 1:45 PM to 8 PM for everyone to enjoy. People from all walks of life come from all over the Lower Mainland and beyond to celebrate the beginning of summer while reveling in a diverse array of musical styles. Gastown Jazz also boasts the BC Honda Dealers Family Zone, dazzling street entertainers, souvenir and CD kiosks, snacks and refreshments as well as a wide assortment of cafes, restaurants and bistros located along Water Street. It’s Vancouver’s Best Street Party!
From the hip piano quartet romps of Montreal’s François Bourassa Quartet, to the hard-hitting riffs, infectious grooves and rollicking horns of Vancouver’s Five Alarm Funk, to the traditional rhythms of the didgeridoo blended with pumping electronic beats, vocals, exotic woodwinds and world percussion of Australia’s OKA, Gastown Jazz is a microcosm of the Festival with its blend of styles and sounds.
