David Lam Park Jazz Weekend – July 2 & 3, 2011 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival’s Closing Crescendo of Free Concerts
The David Lam Park Jazz Weekend brings the music to a closing crescendo during the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival’s final two days July 2 & 3, 2011. This special one-of-a-kind event takes place at David Lam Park and the Roundhouse Community Centre located at Concord Pacific Place. It’s a huge, spectacular, international celebration of music, food, and culture enjoyed by thousands and thousands of Festival fans. The best part is that it is FREE to the public.
Locals and visitors attend David Lam Park Jazz Weekend for its vibrant atmosphere, exceptional programming and superb location. The legendary Festival within a Festival at David Lam Park and the adjoining Roundhouse Community Centre features three indoor stages (Exhibition Hall, Roundhouse Performance Centre, and educational workshops at The Studio) and the big outdoor stage at David Lam Park. The B.C. Hydro Powersmart Family Zone on the park provides a fun, friendly and interactive arts and crafts centre and playground for families. There’s plenty of great food with the popular Park Bistro & Bar featuring BC wine and beer.
The music begins at Noon and continues until 9:45 PM. Our colossal program boasts some 32 concerts and workshops over the two days. On Saturday, July 2 at noon get set for a musical treat with Debra-Jean and The Means. Think super-funky Sharon Jones backed by the Jesus Lizard instead of the Dap Kings. On Sunday, July 3 Cape Breton’s Tom Fun Orchestra delivers an eclectic show that has been compared to Tom Waits, The Pogues and Arcade Fire.
In addition, sounds from local bands like the Brad Turner Quartet, Rumba Calzada, Gordon Grdina’s Haram, and The Crackling to internationally acclaimed artists like Kazutoki Umezu KIKI BAND (Japan), Ravens & Chimes (USA), Wil Campa y su Gran Union (Cuba) to workshops led by Colin Stetson and Kevin Breit, the David Lam Park Jazz Weekend continues to delight audiences of all ages.
