Contest! UBC Thunderbirds Super Weekend

UBC Thunderbirds Super Weekend

It’s a Thunderbird! It’s a Plane! It’s Super Weekend!

No one at UBC is ever going to tell you not to study, but if you happen to need a break on the weekend of November 6-7, the UBC Thunderbirds Super Weekend should be a pretty sweet distraction, as six T-Birds squads are hosting games on campus over the two days.

Among other highlights, the big weekend includes two home openers for the men’s and women’s basketball teams and a pair of games apiece for the men’s and women’s volleyball teams. In addition, the weekend will feature some playoff matches, with the Canada West Final Four tournament in men’s soccer and a Canada West semi-final in football.

Another added bonus? Because nobody should miss out on any of this weekend’s action, one Super Weekend ticket will provide access to all thirteen games for just ten dollars for UBC students, seven dollars for UBC alumni, ten dollars for adults and just twenty dollars for a family of two adults and three youth. Prices will be going up soon, so pick up your tickets in advance.

War Memorial Gym is definitely a pretty good place to be this weekend, as you can catch the T-Birds men’s and women’s basketball teams duke it out against the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas after volleyball on both days. Both hoops teams will be celebrating their home openers, so make it loud. Full face paint is definitely encouraged.
Both volleyball teams should be amped for the coming week, as they square off against their counterparts from the Calgary Dinos. The T-Birds women’s side dominated in their last outing against the Manitoba Bisons, ripping off two wins, both in straight sets. The Thunderbirds men’s team, on the other hand, are seeking redemption after coming off a pair of losses to the Bisons.

The Thunderbirds men’s soccer team just wrapped up their second undefeated regular season in four years, finishing the campaign tied for the No. 1 ranking in all of CIS (alongside the UQAM Citadins). The ‘Birds made it through the Saskatchewan Huskies in the Canada West quarterfinals on October 30, and are now getting ready to host the Canada West Men’s Soccer Final 4 Tournament. UBC will be playing in the semi-final match on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Your Super Weekend pass will get you access to both semi-final matches, along with the Bronze and Gold medal games on Saturday.

The UBC Thunderbirds Football team claimed second place in the Canada West with a win over the Manitoba Bisons on home turf, finishing the season 6-2. During UBC Thunderbirds Super Weekend, they will be hosting a rematch of the contest at Thunderbird Stadium. The game will kick off at noon on Saturday, with the winner earning the chance to play for the Hardy Cup.

Plus, you haven’t even heard about the prizes that are going to be dished out.

Upon purchasing a ticket, spectators will receive a passport that will be stamped prior to each game. Fans who collect at least four stamps will have their passports entered into a draw to win:
