Vancouver Bach Choir heralds the festive season with the return of its annual tradition: Christmas with the Bach Choir РDec. 1, 2013, 2pm at The Orpheum. A heartwarming afternoon of treasured carols and captivating seasonal works, this extraordinary concert brings together the various vocal levels of the acclaimed Vancouver Bach Choir organization from the tiny Piccolo Choir (ages 5 Р7) to the esteemed Adult Choir in a single, memorable matin̩e performance.

“Christmas with the Bach Choir is a highly anticipated event and the only occasion each year when the entire Bach Choir family is showcased at one time,” said Leslie Dala, Music Director of the Vancouver Bach Choir. “This magical concert salutes the season and puts you in the perfect mood to celebrate the holidays.”

The program for Christmas with the Bach Choir features works that span early song, modern song, and essentials like the magnificent Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. In addition, rousing audience sing-alongs of all-time favourite carols such as O Holy Night, are sprinkled throughout the performance.

The Vancouver Bach Choir family consists of its renowned 130 – voice symphonic Adult Choir as well as an impressive array of choral programs for all age groups – Piccolo (Grades 1 & 2), Toccata (Grades 3 & 4), Chorales (Grades 5 – 8), Chorus (Grades 6 – 10), Youth Choir (Grades 11 and up), and Sarabande (chamber choir of young adults).

For this concert, Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus Artistic Director and long-time affiliate, Marisa Gaetanne, as well as conductor Paula Kremer, lead the youth ensembles in repertoire ranging from Pietro Yon’s 1917 Italian Christmas carol, Gesù Bambino, to an arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, to the timeless classic, Carol of the Bells.

Vancouver Bach Choir Music Director, Leslie Dala conducts the Adult Choir in the hauntingly beautiful Magnum Mysterium by sixteenth century composer, Tomas Luis de Victoria, as well as Britten’s Hymn to the Virgin. The singers are joined on stage by numerous local guest artists including harpist Merrissa Ollivier, organist Ellen Ay-Laung Wang, and local brass quintet, A Touch of Brass.
