To friend or not to friend is the big question facing many parents dealing with teenagers on Facebook.

Three quarters of parents questioned in a Nielsen survey said they are friends with their children on the popular social networking website which boasts 500 million active users. But a third admitted they are worried they are not seeing everything their children are doing on the web.

Improved resources, strong network encourage families to choose home-schooling

Aubyn Baker never planned to home-school her daughter, but when tests showed the fifth-grader was gifted and learning-disabled, many of her problems made sense.

Since Grade 3, Taegyn Baker-Riley had struggled with school. She often suffered from headaches, exhaustion and discouragement.

After trying to fix the problem by switching Taegyn from French immersion to English, and then to a different school, Baker was at her wit’s end. It was an offhand comment from Taegyn’s father, Terry Riley, that pushed them to try home-schooling.

The Summer Night Market, now in its second year, has been open since mid-May. Located behind Home Depot at 12631 Vulcan Way, the market is open throughout the summer from 7:00 PM to Midnight Fridays and Saturdays, and from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. on Sundays and holidays.

The market features merchandise tables, food vendors and a variety of entertainment and demonstrations. The Summer Night Market took over where the former Richmond Night Market left off.

The new Summer Night Market runs until October 4.

BC commercial real estate investment market enjoys record sales volume in first half of 2010

With momentum building from a strong finish to 2009, the British Columbia commercial real estate investment market enjoyed record sale transaction dollar volume of $1.026 billion in the first half of 2010.

For the first time in the province’s history, commercial real estate investment volume surpassed $1 billion in a six-month period as 45 sales transactions completed. In the first half of 2010, the total volume of office, retail and industrial property sales rose 43% from $715 million in the second half of 2009 and $643 million in the first half of 2009. As a result, the year-end 2010 total is expected to surpass the year-end 2009 mark of $1.36 billion by a wide margin.

Lady Gaga adds second Vancouver show on her Monster Ball Tour

It seems Vancouver can’t get enough of flamboyant pop star Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga has added a second show at Rogers Arena after quickly selling out her first show on Aug. 23, concert promoters Live Nation. That show, part of her Monster Ball Tour, sold out in under 30 minutes.

Lady Gaga will perform her second show on Aug. 24 at the same venue.
