Get Ready for a Cosmic Summer at Metropolis at Metrotown

This summer, something special is happening at Metropolis at Metrotown. From now to September 1st, the shopping centre is hosting its “Explore the Galaxy” themed Summer at the Met celebration. This free, family-friendly event series invites everyone to enjoy a variety of space-themed activities and entertainment.

A highlight of the summer is the Summer Market at the Met, running from July 3rd to 6th. Located at the outdoor south plaza, this market has expanded this year with over 15 food vendors. You can find a wide range of eats, from Taiwanese dishes at Typhoon BBT Café to Japanese-style burgers from Wakwak Burger and Mexican street food from Sabrosito. For dessert, there are options like Filipino sweets from Cake It Easy and Asian-inspired ice cream by Crema Ice Cream.

There will be live music and performances, including dazzling fire shows and juggling acts. For families, there are plenty of activities like balloon twisting, face painting, and caricature drawing. You might even spot an astronaut, alien, or robot wandering around for a fun photo opportunity. A Roaming Selfie Ring Photo Booth will also be available to capture your memories. A unique performance to catch is SMASH!, a group that creates music using everyday items like trash cans and water bottles.

Beyond the market, the galactic theme continues throughout the shopping centre until September 1st. Local art studio, Lazy Wizard Design, has created captivating displays, including immersive floor decals that make you feel like you’re walking on another planet. You can also find QR codes that provide interesting facts about space.

To make your visit more interactive, you can pick up a Summer Passport at Guest Services. As you explore the different “Explore the Galaxy” attractions, you can collect stamps. With seven stamps, you’ll receive a surprise gift, and with ten stamps, you’ll be entered for a chance to win a $100 prize.

Mark your calendars for a couple of special events in July. On July 19th from 12 pm to 2 pm, a Summer Dance Party will move through the shopping center with a mobile DJ, astronauts, and aliens handing out prizes. Then, on July 26th and 27th, from 12 pm to 3 pm, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre will present Starlab, a pop-up planetarium where you can enjoy a 10-minute session filled with fascinating space facts.

The Summer Market at the Met is open July 3-5 from 2 pm to 10 pm, and July 6 from 2 pm to 8 pm. Admission is free, and there is four-hour visitor parking available. The venue is also easily accessible via the Metrotown SkyTrain Station.
