Cirque du Soleil’s CRYSTAL Glides into Vancouver, and It’s an Icy, Acrobatic Spectacle

Cirque du Soleil has brought its first-ever ice show, CRYSTAL, to the Pacific Coliseum, and it’s here until this Sunday, June 8th. If you’re looking for something truly different to do this weekend, this could be it.
So, what happens when you combine the gravity-defying acrobatics of Cirque du Soleil with the grace and speed of ice skating? You get CRYSTAL. The show tells the story of its main character, Crystal, a young woman who feels a bit out of place. She falls through the ice on a frozen pond and discovers a world that reflects her own imagination. It’s a tale of self-discovery, told through some seriously impressive physical feats.
Instead of a traditional big top, the entire performance unfolds on a massive sheet of ice. This isn’t just a backdrop; it’s an integral part of the show. World-class skaters and acrobats perform together, with skaters launching into the air and acrobats gliding across the frozen stage. Expect to see seven classic circus acts like trapeze and aerial straps, but with a twist – they’re all adapted for the ice.
One of the coolest things about CRYSTAL is how it blends these two disciplines. You have figure skaters learning circus arts and circus performers learning to skate. It creates a seamless and fluid performance that constantly keeps you guessing. The show also uses large-scale visual projections on the ice and a soundtrack that mixes pop music with Cirque du Soleil’s signature atmospheric sounds, creating a vibrant, dreamlike world. And for a touch of winter magic, they even use real snow – about 300 snowballs are made for each week of performances.
Since its debut in 2017, CRYSTAL has been seen by over 2 million people in more than 145 cities around the globe. This is your chance to see what all the excitement is about, right here in Vancouver.
