Let’s face it if you’re below 5 feet 8 inches, buying clothing is not an easy task. It can be frustrating to find the right size pants or shirt to fit your small frame. Most shirts are always too long to be worn untucked and pants size are even worse. Try to buy pants with the correct waist size and inseam without paying the “tailor tax”. Peter Manning understand your problem and started Peter Manning NYC in 2012. The brand is founded on a simple premise: men 5’8″ and under must be able to buy clothes that fit properly and feel great.

1.) Tell us about yourself?

I am life long New Yorker. My previous careers were in theater, where I ran a not for profit theater company and won a Tony Award in 1998, then I went back to school to study architecture and did an award winning development in New York, 211 Elizabeth Street, then I turned my attention the clothing line I had been designing in my head for many years. As a producer by training, I learned that you can produce anything. I am also a husband a father to a fifteen year old girl. She is a great ice hockey player!

2.) What inspired you to get into fashion?

I got into fashion because I wanted clothes that fit and I could not find any. I knew there were other men our there who must be equally frustrated and the line was born. Necessity breeds invention.

3.) Has dressing well always been a part of your life?

I have always loved clothes. I remember vividly tell my older sister when I was five that I loved to get up in the morning so that I could pick out my clothes. I remember the look on her face. She thought it was weird.

4.) How did “Peter Manning NYC” get started?

Total and complete naiveté. I just was passionate about doing in and kept digging and digging until I found a way. More practically, an SBA loan from a bank allowed me to take off.

5.) What’s the inspiration behind the brand?

My inspiration every day is our customer. Creating clothes that will make him look and feel great. I believe in classic wearable clothes that won’t go out of style.

6.) Who are the “Peter Manning NYC” customers?

Our customer base is broad and totally diverse, from college kids to older men and everything in between. About 25% of our customers our woman buying for their husbands, sons and boyfriends. They love us. We have shipped to every state in the US, as well as Canada, Hong Kong, England and the Phillipines.

7.) What can we expect from “Peter Manning NYC” in the future?

More! We are just beginning. There is so much this customer needs. Sportswear to suits to swimwear to pajamas. We are also constantly refining our clothes and cuts to make them better and better. We are also take a lot of our manufacturing here in the US or Europe. I like it to be closer to home.
