Eat Your Words, Vancouver! New Town Bakery and Restaurant

Falling just behind San Francisco and New York, Vancouver has the third largest Chinatown in North America. Early Chinese immigrants arrived to work on B.C.’s railroads and mines in the late 1800′s and settled into what was considered at the time as Vancouver’s ghetto. Now over a hundred years later, this area of Downtown is a rich cultural experience with heritage buildings, markets, temples, gardens, and perhaps the most vital part of all: delicious restaurants.

Sometimes it’s a delicate egg tart, a sweet coconut bun, or a mound of chow mein that beckons your taste buds to this end of the city. Other times it’s peking duck, potstickers, or a steaming pot of jasmine tea that warms and nourishes from head to toe.

Then there are those times that you want something meaty, tender, and stick-to-your-ribs hearty. That channels your inner caveman so you can rip through each carnivorous bite. You know what times we’re talking about. It’s those times that you just want some good ol’ beef.

If your wallet doesn’t exactly mimic the size of your ravaging appetite, than Chinatown is your dine out destination.  It’s home to an abundance of cheap eats that don’t skimp on portion or quality, and always tastes good.

Take New Town Bakery and Restaurant for example. With hundreds (literally) of items, there are at least a few beefy deals to chow down on, like the beef rice rolls pictured above. You can also warm up to a bowl of minced or sliced beef congee, both of which won’t run you passed $5.
