St. Paul’s Hospital Fashion fundraiser brilliant! – September 21, 2013
This Saturday, the fashion and creative community will put on a show of love for mental health and HIV/AIDS care and research at St. Paul’s Hospital during the brilliant! fundraiser.
brilliant! A Show of Love for Mental Health and People Living with HIV/AIDS is expected to draw more than 900 people to Vancouver’s Commodore Ballroom. The event will be highlighted by a runway show featuring Canada’s hottest fashions, hair stylists, makeup artists and talent, as well as silent and live auctions and a disco and funk dance party.
Show Producer Dean Thullner developed the brilliant! event to thank St. Paul’s Hospital for the treatment he received for both the physical effects of the HIV virus and the mental effects of the diagnosis, which included fear, depression and exhaustion and caused him to have a serious breakdown.
“In the early 1990s, I was diagnosed as HIV-positive and told that I had only three months left to live,” Thullner says. “When you are young and suddenly have no hope, you find yourself in a very scary, lost and reckless place. But through St. Paul’s research and compassion and continuous support, I and other HIV-positive people are still here today.”
