Exploring the Sunshine Coast in 2017 Ford Edge Sport

We recently got invited to test drive Ford’s 2017 SUV line up in the Sunshine Coast. Ford offers customer a diverse choice from compact crossover to luxury, 7-seater SUV.

From the Fairmont Vancouver Airport, we drove the 2017 Ford Edge Sport for the first leg of the trip. The Sport package is equipped with leather-trimmed sport seats with suede inserts, 20″ low-gloss magnetic-painted polished pockets wheels, piano black grille with magnetic accent, panoramic vista roof and ambient lighting.

The Ford Edge is powered by a twin-turbo 2.7 litre EcoBoost V6 engine. It produced an impressive 315 horsepower and 350 lb. ft. of torque, the most powerful gas V6 in its class. On the road, the Edge was fun to drive with responsive handling and comfortable ride.

During our road trip, we used the voice-activated SYNC 3 to route our destination and listen to our playlist. SYNC 3 also works seamlessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

We synced our Apple iPhone which allow CarPlay to take over and display Apple Maps on the dashboard. You can also ask Siri for directions and make calls, send and receive messages all hands free.

Our first stop is lunch at Smitty’s Oyster House in Gibson. Stafford Lumley, owner of Smitty’s Oyster House, taught us how to shuck an oyster. As an oyster lover, I was eager to learn. It was a simple process all you need is a shucking knife and dish towel.

Step 1: Place an oyster flat side up and hold the oyster firmly with a dish towel to help protect your hand

Step 2: Place the tip of the knife between the top and bottom shells

Step 3: Press inward and twist the knife until the shell pops open

Step: 4: Detach the oyster from the top and bottom shell

For the next 2 days, we stayed at the luxurious Painted Boat Resort in Madeira Park.

The 30 room resort overlooks above Pender Harbour and set in a 5 acre glade of Douglas fir, red cedar and arbutus trees.

My room was a massive two bedroom villa complete with a gourmet kitchen, barbecue grill, stainless steel appliances, fireplace, living room and two HD TVs.

Master bedroom has one king bed, ensuite bathroom with large soaker tub and separate shower stall

Gorgeous balcony view of Pender Harbour

Gourmet kitchen has natural granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, breakfast bar and formal dining area.

Later in the afternoon, Jess Findlay hosted a car photography workshop.

5 car photography tips:

Surroundings: Avoid things in the background that will distract the eye

Time of day: Best time to shoot will be a few minutes after sunset or before sunrise

Show motion: Get some nice movement on the road

Pay attention to reflection: Minimize the reflection by shooting at an angle

Shoot details: Capture the car’s curve line and design features

Our next food activity is caviar tasting. Northern Divine is North America’s only certified organic caviar and voted one of the world’s best sustainable caviars.

The sturgeon caviar was rich, creamy and slightly sweet. The eggs just pop in the roof of your mouth.

We ended the night with a Ford tradition – s’mores party. After a full day of eating and driving, it was nice to relax and cozy up by fire.
