2018 GMC Terrain test drive in Lac Beauport, Quebec

For 2018, GMC completely overhauled the Terrian from the ground up with a sporty design and brand new infotainment system. We recently attended the 2018 GMC Terrain launch in Lac Beauport, Quebec to test drive the new compact SUV.

The 2018 GMC Terrain features a brand new industrial sculpture concept with a muscular grille, C-shaped HID headlights, and a floating roof. Every trim level (SLE, SLT and Denali) has its own distinctive grille.

The new Terrain is equipped with the latest driver-assist and safety technologies like Forward Collision Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Low Speed Forward Automatic Braking.

Under the hood, the Terrain is available in 3 powertrains: 1.5L turbo-charged engine, 2.0L turbo-charged engine and 1.6L turbo-charged diesel. The standard engine is a 1.5L 4-cylinder develops 170 horsepower and 201 lb.-ft. of torque. The powerful 2.0L 4-cylinder engine produces an impressive 252 horsepower and 260 lb. ft. of torque.

The luxury interior is extremely well equipped with 8-way power driver seat, fold flat front seat, automatic dual zone A/C, 4 standard USB ports, heated front seats, leather wrapped steering wheel. The cabin is welcoming and can sit four adults in comfort

New for 2018, the Terrain features an innovative Electronic Precision Shift System. This button and switch-based transmission system makes shifting easier and frees up valuable storage space in the cabin and centre console. When paired with the 9 speed automatic transmission, it seamlessly switch between gears when you need it most.

One of my favourite feature is the updated IntelliLink 3.0 infotaimment system, which features GMC first smartphone-like interface. Like your smartphone, you can pinch and zoom, swipe and scroll on the 8 inch multi-touch screen. It is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With Apple CarPlay, you ask Siri to play your Spotify playlists, read messages, make calls, and get directions with Apple Maps.

With Android Auto, you can use “OK Google” voice commands to listen to your Google Play Music playlists, send and receive messages, and get real-time GPS navigation and traffic alerts with Google Maps.

Terrain also comes equipped with over-the-air (OTA) vehicle software updates. It will automatically update the infotainment and mechanical software systems.

Available for the first time on the Terrain is Rear-Seat Reminder. Rear-Seat Reminder alerts you to check the back seat when exiting the vehicle to help prevent leaving kids.

With a hands-free power programmable liftgate, it makes loading groceries and cargo easier than ever.

Our home base for the next 2 days was at the newly open Entourage sur-le-Lac Hotel and Resort. Located on the Lac Beauport Lake, Entourage sur-le-Lac Hotel and Resort sprawls over five acres with 375 feet of shoreline.

The four-star wellness resort features 166 rooms, suites and penthouses, sports facilities and Ilot Repère Gourmand restaurant.

My room was spacious with a comfy king bed, large HD TV, sofa, kitchenette and a living room.

Check out the beautiful Fall colours and Lac Beauport Lake views from my hotel room balcony.

Even though, it is categorized as a compact SUV. The Terrain cabin is spacious with good headroom and legroom in both rows.

In terms of cargo room, the Terrain provides 29.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seat in place. With the rear seat folded, the space increases to 63.3 cubic feet.

In the packing challenge, we packed all of the camping gear, chair, backpack, cooler, tent and kayak into the roomy Terrain in less than 3 minutes.

After the vehicle walk around, we were ready for our first #LikeAPro adventure. Quebec is one of the world’s top white water rafting destination.

Jacques Cartier River runs for 161 km from Laurentides Wildlife Reserve to the Saint Lawrence River at Donnacona.

It was a thrilling experience hurtling down a river in Class IV rapids.

It was fun dodging whirlpools, hitting rocks and falling down waterfalls.
