It may not be on the presses yet, but we now have a BUY LOCAL WEEK. As a local entrepreneur and someone who only shops locally, this is something I am 100% behind.
LOCO BC announced via e-mail:
The Province of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver have declared Dec 3-9 the first annual Buy Local Week. We hope that other cities will follow suit, and that this becomes the start of an annual celebration that helps grow the movement for a strong local economy in BC.
Celebrate Buy Local Week with us:
Today: Share the attached buy local infographic on Facebook and Twitter. Tag @LOCObc and use our hashtag #buyLOCO. Let us know who your favorite local business is.
Tomorrow (December 4, 2012): Join us when the Honorable Naomi Yamamoto, Minister for State for Small Business, LOCO Founder Amy Robinson, and Andy Broderick, VP Community Investment, Vancity kick off Buy Local Week at the beginning of our holiday party. Arrive by 5:30 to hear the announcement. Stay 5:30-9pm to celebrate with us at this Vancity-hosted business mixer. We’ll be unveiling our first video demonstrating how local businesses strengthen our community. Registration link: http://locobc.com/events
I just joined LOCO BC so that I could start attending the monthly mixers as a member and take advantage of some of the member discounts. It’s really exciting to see an organization pushing for more local buying, as this is what’s going to get our economy back on track. I’m also going to be at Got Craft? this weekend to get a lot of my holiday shopping over and done with. I suggest you check out events like this or just the area where you live and support locally-owned businesses!
